TBT: 2019’s Air Jordan 1 Turbo Green Inspires April’s Hyper Royal

TBT: 2019’s Air Jordan 1 Turbo Green Inspires April’s Hyper Royal

Another Thursday, another awesome TBT. This week we’re throwing it back to the banned sneakers that turned into a billion-dollar business: Air Jordan 1s. This shoe is so many things at once: The first signature kick for the best basketball player in history, the sneaker that completely flipped the collecting game. And an all-time classic that has been connecting generations since ever! But hey! Which one are we reminiscing this time? With the Hyper Royal dropping soon, we couldn’t not remember 2019’s Air Jordan 1 Turbo Green. That rang a huge bell, didn’t it?

Good Old Air Jordan 1 Turbo Green

Air Jordan 1 Turbo Green

Taking inspiration from the 90s and Charlotte Hornets, the Air Jordan 1 Turbo Green paid tribute to the city for hosting its first NBA All Star game. The pair featured a white tumbled leather base and washed green suede overlays. I still remember the most notable feature on this colorway was the “SP 19 Air Jordan 1 High OG” printed on the medial and lateral mid-foot areas. This text was a-la Virgil Abloh, with “SP” likely referring to Special Edition. The pair also featured a cool purple and yellow Nike Air branding on the tongues that added a dashing touch to the shoe’s distressed appearance. To complete the look, the Wings logo landed across the ankles, followed by a sail-colored midsole and grey rubber outsole.

The OG Retro Air Jordan 1 Turbo Green released at retailers on February 15, 2019, with a $160 price tag.

Turbo Green Deja Vu’s Through Soon-to-Drop “Hyper Royal”

Air Jordan 1 Turbo Green vs Air Jordan 1 Hyper Royal

We witnessed this pre-worn weathered look with the “Neutral Greys” right before the Turbo. And it is hitting again very soon with April’s awaited “Hyper Royal”. This pair is the twin of 2019’s OG drop. The colorway features a light grey around the ankle and Swoosh, with complementary white leather all around. White is also visible at outsoles and the shoe’s signature “Wings” logo. The branding on this Hyper’s tongues is a popping dark blue badge with simple white Nike Air logo. The key feature here, just like the “Turbo Green”, is the worn-out suede, this time in a Hyper blue tone. The only detail that is different with this drop is the absence of Abloh’s printed text below the swoosh.

The “Hyper Royal” is set to release on the 17th of April for $170.

Hyper Blue Copping Game As Hot As them Greens?

We love a good TBT, ya’ll. Especially throwbacks that guide our lovely sneakerheads onto what drops are worth the cop. This only tells us good things about the upcoming “Royal Blue”, fam.

The mock-up shots of the upcoming Royal Blue Air Jordan 1 screamed “Turbo Green” the second they dropped last year. It’s only been two years, and the 2019 model is already reselling for $500 a pair. Yes! More than 3 times the retail price they dropped for. Boy did this AJ1 hit us hard. It seems like the Hyper Royal, though, will hit us even harder. This sick pair is already getting hyped on the reseller market for an average resale price of $650. So, you better run your best bots right in a few days for this drop. Another shoe that needs no Jordan cleaning efforts. It’s just around the corner, now, and we are expecting a huge W out of this one!
