TBT: Nike PlayStation Shoes Are More than a Marketing Item!
The sneaker industry is slowly slithering its way into all parts of our lives. It’s been doing so for a long while now. Our favorite crossover though is definitely between the sneaker and gaming industries. The pioneers of this partnership are Nike and Sony’s PlayStation. So what are the best Nike PlayStation shoes in 2020?
The Best Nike PlayStation Shoes Today!
Before we start, we’d like to remind you that these aren’t all the Nike PlayStation shoes on the market. We wanted to highlight the best releases and the most relevant ones today on the aftermarket!
Travis Scott Nike Dunk Low x PlayStation
So if we had a king of collabs competition, Travis Scott would win without an inkling of doubt. From the McDonald’s collab to PlayStation, the man is restless! But well, we got no albums so… Anyway! PlayStation teased the collaboration back in October 2020, and that was all they needed. It later became clear that Cactus Jack would be dropping merch and sneakers to celebrate the new PS5. However, there was a catch! Only 5 pairs of the Nike PlayStation shoes were available through a giveaway on Scott’s website. And you need no monster math to deduce that resale would be crazy high! Who knows? Maybe several years later, the release will end up feeling like a myth!
Release Date: 2020
Avg. Resale Value: $7,000
Nike Air Force 1 PlayStation 3
To celebrate the release of the third Playstation in 2006, Nike and Sony joined hands and dropped the iconic Air Force 1. The inspiration behind the sneakers was the console itself. The shiny patent leather and blue-to-white gradient were next level looks. The PlayStation logo embroidery completes the whole look along with purple laces! But that’s not all, the tea here is that there are actually only 150 pairs in total. Each pair has its own number, and all the pairs went out to employees and friends! Naturally, that makes the Nike PlayStation kicks pretty hype and worth a fortune.
Release Date: 1/1/2006
Avg. Resale Value: $3,250
Three years later, the kicks made a comeback to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the PlayStation 2. It looked the same but better somehow. Maybe it was the slightly different blue gradient that made the subtle change. The kicks were even more exclusive and there were only 50 pairs. This time the pairs were given to media, VIPs, and Sony execs. So if you’re none of these, it’s the aftermarket for you.
Release Date: 1/1/2009
Avg. Resale Value: $3,898
PG 2 x PlayStation F&F
Just when you think that Travis Scott killed it with the Nike PlayStation shoes, we remember Paul George. The American professional basketball player dropped his second signature shoe with a bang. The PS4 inspired the kicks and the colorway was pretty sleek. In addition to that, the tongue featured the PS and PG logos that featured LED lighting! But that’s not all we wanna talk about. The Friends and Family pack was something else, and we still feel the pain of not being Nike’s F&F. The pack included a backpack, the PS4, two PG-theme controllers, and the kicks!
Release Date: 1/15/2018 (F&F) – 2/10/2018 (Sneakers)
Retail Price: $110 (Sneakers)
Avg. Resale Value: $401 (Sneakers)
The Future of Gaming Collabs
Well, who knows? If the Nike PlayStation shoes keep that same energy, the future will probably be very bright. Maybe the next releases will be to celebrate the anniversary of the PS3. We’ll definitely keep our fingers crossed!
