TBT: Off White Converse, aka The One That Got Away!

It’s very usual that sneaker release dates change by months on end sometimes. However, what’s unusual is when a sneaker pack drops minus one! But we gotta be honest here, that’s the charm of hyped releases, they’re a challenge to keep track of. And that’s exactly the alluring aspect of the Off White Converse that we’re remembering today!

If you wanna take a look at the other cool kicks we covered, click here.

The Ten… Minus One!!

It’s 2017, and the sneaker industry is booming with the upcoming Nike x Off White collaboration. Virgil Abloh, the designer who blurred the line between streetwear and luxury, is taking sneakers to another level! Everyone was pretty excited about The Ten’s new takes on classic silhouettes. However, the release was naturally very limited, and the Off White kicks sold out almost instantly. The most successful pair to date though is hands down the Chicago Air Jordan 1.

Off White Converse The Ten

The kicks dropped in September 2017 and were an instant success. However, one pair was missing, and instead of the Ten, we got the Nine! Off White Converse was nowhere to be seen. The kicks featured a translucent upper with Virgil’s signatures written all over it. This pair is a part of the five “Ghosting” silhouettes, but it didn’t actually drop with them. So let’s go into some of the kicks’ details! But first, a quick reminder of the silhouettes that did drop:

Off White Converse: Late to The Party?

They say good things take time. That’s why the Off White Converse dropped a few months late! Everyone originally thought the kicks will drop in late 2017. However, the Off White Converse dropped in May 2018! And even though they were about 6 months late, the kicks fit right into the clear shoe trend that Kim Kardashian was rocking since 2016. The trend actually went full force in 2018 with celebrities like Rihanna and Kylie Jenner rocking them!

So technically, we can say that the late drop didn’t hurt the pair in the least. In fact, the Off White Converse resells today for almost 10 times its original retail price! I mean, why wouldn’t it? The kicks are extremely good-looking, exclusive, and the definition of hype kicks. And let’s not forget that the Chuck Taylor Hi is a classic silhouette. So when you take a classic and throw a modern spin on them, it’s an instant hit! The kicks feature a translucent white upper and a bluish rubber midsole with the “Vulcanized” print. The usual tag on the heel of the kicks is upside down because aesthetics ya know. Finally, we’ve got the Nike address printed on the side of the kicks. We can actually find this detail on most, if not all, Off White x Nike kicks!

The First, But Definitely Not The Last

The vulcanized Off White Converse is the first Off White rendition of the classic Chucks. However, it’s not the only one. Three months after their release, Virgil and Converse dropped a brand new Off White Converse Chuck Taylor. This time, the kicks weren’t transparent. Instead, they featured a white upper and the Off White signature stripes! And who knows? Maybe in the coming years, we’ll receive some more interesting renditions of the popular kicks!

Speaking of Off White collabs, don’t forget to check out the upcoming Off White Jordan 5! They’re definitely worth the hype and the effort.
