TBT: Adidas Yeezy 700 Waverunner the OG Dad Shoes
So, in light of its recent comeback, we think it’s only fitting that we reminisce on the Yeezy 700 Waverunner.
The OG dad shoes dropped back in 2017 in a release exclusive to Yeezy Supply. It was one of the biggest cultural shocks at that time. The 700 being a sneaker on the chunkier side, it was quite the change! It literally took us back to the days of actual dad shoes – cue the sweatpants and ankle-length socks.
Not only was it different in terms of general silhouette, but the Waverunner sported a whole different colorway. After a long time of monochromatic earthy tone, the fluorescent yellow laces and orange/blue overlays were a BIG difference. A difference everyone was keen on hopping on!
What made the Yeezy 700 Waverunner such a huge success? Well, for starters, the shoes offered a huge amount of unprecedented comfort! And we’re not talking about JUST sneaker cushioning.
The 700s feature cushioned uppers of cotton with layers of mesh around the ankles. Both materials work together to promote extra comfort and breathability! They’ve also got suede overlays around the body of the sneaker for extra support.
They even feature full-on Boost technology to ensure that every step you take is full of comfort! It is full of flexible, durable, and high-quality material.
It’s no wonder they retailed for $300. Yep, the Yeezy 700s are one of the most expensive Yeezys. But, in this case, you get what you pay for! It’s a sneaker that won’t crease with a color that won’t fade and soles that won’t wear off! PLUS, you don’t have to worry about cleaning them!
Release Date: November 1st, 2017
Retail Price: $300
Average Resale Value: $524
Yeezy 700 Waverunner RESTOCK
Throughout Yeezy’s history, Kanye West has given us one concrete promise. And that promise is providing Yeezy for EVERYONE! For that exact reason, Yeezy restocks and events like Yeezy Day are a thing.
The man believes in second chances. You hear that, Kim K?
The first 700 release was in August 2017 only to relaunch globally in 2018 and 2019. THEN, Kanye dropped the Yeezy 700 Waverunner once again on 2021’s Yeezy Day! If you wanna read a full recap about that day and all the Yeezy restocks, click here to find out more.
If it wasn’t for the global pandemic hitting in 2020, we think Kanye would’ve dropped the Waverunner once again! We kinda have mixed feelings about that, though. If the Yeezy Boost 350s are the most popular Yeezys, then the 700s are the most owned Yeezys!
Well, Kanye’s obviously not over the Yeezy 700 Waverunner and would very much like to keep the trend alive. Daddy issues maybe?
We try not to reason with Kanye’s methods. That’s why we’re trying not to question the upcoming release of the Yeezy Boost 700 FADAZU. Fada-what?
If you look it up, you’ll think you’ve gotten into Feezys blended with Inertia and Hospital Blue. But, that’s almost always the case with new Yeezys. Just make sure you’ve got your foot size right. Comfort does not come with wrong-sized kicks.
In short, the new Fadazu might hit the sneaker market soon in 2021. So, make sure to keep an eye out! And keep the other eye locked on our blog for any more Yeezy updates!
