TBT: The Air Jordan 1 Dior High: A Shoe Worth Breaking the Bank For
This week’s TBT is a full-on chic one. It’s a throwback to our favorite silhouette, the Air Jordan 1. But it ain’t no ordinary throwback to no ordinary AJ1. This shoe is a special pair that unleashed two sides of our personality: The sneakerhead side, and the elegant side. And it was one of the most anticipated launches of 2020: The one and only Grey Air Jordan 1 Dior High.
Air Jordan 1 Dior: The Brand’s First Luxury-Fashion Collab
Rumors were swirling around what this collab would look like and it turned out to be one hell of a shoe! The Dior x Jordan 1 High OG was one of the collaborations of its kind between the luxury fashion house and the sportswear giant. We do have the Jordan 1 X Colette to look up to! I still remember the first time we grabbed a look at these, our sneakerhead jaws literally dropped. A good old Jordan model with a dash of the one and only “Dior”. Just imagine the result.
No Birthday Wish Like One from the Dior Label
Last Summer, French fashion label Dior collaborated with the Jordan brand to release an extremely limited Air Jordan 1. The release coincided with the 35th anniversary of Air Jordan, and there was no more fit way to celebrate: A timeless sneaker styled by Maison Dior. Designed using the same mindset as a luxury bag, Kim Jones’ purpose was to make “the most luxurious Air Jordan 1, ever!” And I bet you, it was the HIT!
Onto All the Luxe Details
This Air Jordan 1 Dior was crafted with Italian luxe leathers in the colors White and Grey. The Swooshes on the sides of this Air Jordan weren’t very simple with this one. They were printed all over in Dior’s monogram motif. You ain’t paying for it if it isn’t going to scream “Dior”. But branding doesn’t stop here. The ankle came padded for some extra protection and comfort, with the Wings logo featuring an “Air Dior” this time. The same branding landed on the tongues as well, with a white Air Dior and Swoosh embroidered on a soft grey tag. More and more co-branding arrived on the icy translucent outsoles of these Jordans using a bold black. Cherry on top, a special Jumpman, and another “Air Dior” Wings hang-tag made from silver were suspended from the grey laces of the shoe.
Thanks to its neutral color-blocking, this shoe had endless styling potential. That’s IF you had a chance to get your hands on a pair. But the Jordan 1 Dior was not only super expensive but also extremely limited to only 8,500 pairs, each pair individually numbered. The pair dropped less than a year ago at $2,200 and is now reselling for $9,883, already. Sick!
They Even Stole the Show at Biden’s Inauguration
While most were fixated on Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on this day, something else seemed to steel the show on social media, at least in the sneaker world. A pair of Air Jordan 1 Dior was spotted in the background of the live TV stream. And a few tweets later we discovered that they belonged to Nikolas Ajagu, the husband of Meena Harris, Kamala Harris’ niece.
Shortly after he was seen walking down the steps of the Capitol, a shot of Ajagu’s feet went viral on twitter and social media. An image of the most talked about sneakers of 2020. While many outside our community won’t understand why Ajagu wore those sneakers on a formal gathering, we sure do. We know these aren’t no ordinary sneakers. That was one big moment in the sneaker world’s history, on a day of American history. The hugest sneaker flex of all time and a clear big win. Well played, Nik!
An Air Dior To-Die-For
This was the first time that Jordan collaborates with a legacy fashion label, and the shoe was one for the books! If you had an eye for these last year and you tried to cop them with no success, another High Air Jordan 1 in Light Smoke Grey is about to drop during mid-May. Maybe this one could be able to heal your Dior pain. Whoever did, though, had a huge W. We hope you didn’t mess your Jordan fit though, or else we’re sorry for your big loss. The risk with these Jordan Dior’s was a big ZERO!
If you know your a-game, you knew that those more-than-a-few-bucks that you paid were going to be so worth it. And here you have it: They multiplied in absolutely no time. Owning such a pair is an actual dream, fam! So, let’s hope we witness a similar sick collaboration soon from the Swoosh. Meanwhile, keep it locked here on ANB for more TBTs and the latest sneaker news.
