TBT: Yeezy Solar Red still Outranks Most Sneakers
The Yeezy Solar Red is one of the most hyped sneakers of Kanye West. Inspired by classic OG Nike silhouettes, the Yeezy Solar Red takes part in the successful Air Yeezy 2 line. And, stands as Red October’s older brother.
Ye 2’s Success
So, as we already mentioned, the Yeezy Solar Red roots from the Air Yeezy 2 Family, debuted in 2012. The Yeezy 2 marks Ye’s second and last signature line with Nike. In fact, with a small Yeezy history check, it’s clear that Adidas Yeezy was a lot more active as a collaboration. However. It’s not always about quantity. The Nike x Yeezy sneakers have a permanent and powerful impact on the sneaker community. Through its work with Kanye West, Nike followed a new approach that’s produced colorful, out of the box, and very exclusive sneakers.
The Yeezy Solar Red Exposed
Going back to the Nike Yeezy 2, the line featured 3 renditions: the Solar Red, Pure Platinum, and Red October. The Solar Red combines the Air Trainer 1 midfoot strip, Air Tech Challenge 2 sole, and Air Foamposite one shell beautifully. It has an unexpected construction highlighted with a black Torch fabric base, anaconda leather overlay, Glow-in-the-dark sole, and reptilian spike heel. We don’t know what inspired Kanye to add Egyptian hieroglyphics spelling out “YZY”. But honestly, such features don’t surprise us as they are designed by the master of surprises.
Hot Release Alert
Kanye teased the sneaker way before the release day, which fired up sneaker lovers! And that’s one marketing move Kanye has gone for so many times. Add to that, the crazy release tactic. The pure platinum dropped at West coast retailers whereas the Yeezy Solar Red dropped at East Coast retailers. Meaning Kanye went for regional releases way before he joined Adidas. And that should explain the hype, and extravagant resale value of the Nike Yeezy Solar Reds.
Kings of the Sell/ Resell Game
These kicks are one of the hardest to find on the secondary market. Which kind of explains its dope resale price. In fact, With an original retail price of $250, these kicks were last sold on stockX for $5,252. That’s a $5,002 profit! Talk about a heck of a catch!
RELEASE DATE: 06/09/2012
RETAIL PRICE: $250
AVERAGE RESALE: +$5,700
An Athleisure Sneaker on Court and Streets
Although a non-athletic sneaker, the Yeezy Solar Red made it to basketball courts. Which basically demonstrates Nike’s power and dominance when it comes to cushioning. Nate Robinson and PJ Tucker even played pro games with the Solar Red on their feet. Outside of the court, Jay Z, Macklemore, and Kanye of course wore those hyped kicks.
Solar Reds for A Good Cause
The Red Solar helped raise money on 2 occasions. The first was by means of a raffle to support the local AAU basketball program. Following one of the deadliest Hurricanes that America has witnessed, West used the Solar Red’s popularity for the second time for a good contribution. In 2012, he autographed his own Solar Red pair with a silver marker and auctioned it to help the Sandy Hurricane Victims.
Yeezy Solar Red X Givenchy
Following the Air Yeezy hype, Mache Custom showed off his creative talent on these kicks. Hence, Mache drew a Givenchy “birds of paradise” on top of the anaconda leather upper. If there is 1 thing we are sure about Kanye, it’s his inevitable love for Fancy Swag custom items. And if you are like Kanye, then you should consider contacting Mache for a custom design. Or, you could use Nike’s custom line, Nike, By You.
Air Yeezy 2 Maybe Back?
Back in 2020, in a Kanye West GQ, West didn’t mind Nike reissuing the Nike Yeezys, giving us all the chills and lots of hope of getting such game-changing kicks back!
Well, we do think that Kanye is not over his Yeezus 2. They are one of his firsts! And some of the Nike Air Yeezy 2 does appear in Kanye’s Adidas iteration. Like the midfoot strap that appears on the 750 Boost.
